Falls City's Community Medical Center Raises Research Funds for Child Brain Cancer

Friday, March 20, 2020

At the Community Medical Center in Falls City, Nebraska, their Healing Hearts Committee does one extra "Jeans Day" per quarter, where staff is allowed to wear jeans to work in exchange for a donation to the selected non-profit. In the first quarter of 2020, the Team Jack Foundation was chosen as the non-profit benefactor, whose mission is to raise awareness and research funds for childhood brain cancer. While this was a voluntary fundraiser, there were staff members from every department that donated to Team Jack so they could wear jeans to work!

While not everyone was present for the photo, pictured above are representatives from Pharmacy, Outpatient  Specialty Clinic, Utilization Review, Med-surg(Nursing), Patient Financial Services (Admissions, Accounting, Business Office and HIM) , Family Medicine Clinic, Human Resources, Materials Management (Purchasing), Emergency Department, Imaging (Radiology) and Administration.

This effort was led by the Healing Hearts Committee, a group that works on behalf of the medical center's administration. Betsy Coolidge, Executive Assistant at Community Medical Center, has a four year-old grandson named Ezra was diagnosed with brain cancer in November of 2017. After surgery and treatments, Ezra is doing well, but his grandma is doing everything she can to help raise awareness and funding for research so better treatments can be developed for kids that are diagnosed.

“Team Jack has been near and dear to me personally because they do such wonderful things for the kids who are diagnosed with brain cancers. My grandson, Ezra, is one of those kids. Team Jack has been so kind to his mom, dad and sister as well," said Community Medical Center employee, Betsy Coolidge. Betsy went on to talk about the outstanding support of her work family at Community Medical Center. "They have been so supportive of Ezra and our entire family, their generosity wasn’t surprising because they are all good, caring people."
