Dunkin’ Donuts is now open, in its new location at Hastings Nebraska and they are proud to support the Team Jack Foundation and child brain cancer research.  Upon each opening of a Dunkin’ Donuts location, a charity is chosen as the recipient of a $1,000 donation.  For the grand opening of the Hastings store on October 7, they decided to donate to the Team Jack Foundation as a suggestion from Team Jack Foundation friend and supporter, Lonny Ostrander, Manager at Dunkin’ Donuts.

In addition to their contribution, they also collected donations from customers. For any customer who donated that day, they received a free travel mug and a coupon for free products. Friends and supporters of the Team Jack Foundation, Lonny, Melissa and Seth Ostrander, generously sat on-site at the store for the entire day to collect donations totaling over $1,250.

“I feel blessed to be part of this wonderful Dunkin’ Donuts franchise, whose owner, Bryce Bares, recognizes the importance of helping and donating to worthy local causes.  When Bryce found out that my son has a brain tumor and how many other children and youth in our area have also been diagnosed, he recognized the importance of helping the Team Jack Foundation raise money for much needed research.  My wife, Melissa, and I can’t thank Bryce enough for his generosity to a cause that is very near and dear to our hearts,” said Lonny Ostrander, Manager at Dunkin’ Donuts.

On September 9, 2012, Lonny’s son, Seth Ostrander, now a junior in high school in Hastings, was diagnosed with a brain tumor.  He spent 10 days in the hospital and had three brain procedures. Two days later he had a craniotomy during which the surgeon was only able to remove 40 percent of the tumor. The tumor is located between his optical nerves and when removing the tumor, doctors were careful to avoid damaging Seth’s eyesight.   By July 2014, Seth completed 14 months of chemotherapy. In December, Seth's 13th MRI showed tumor stability and he "graduated" to six month scans. On December 1, 2015, Seth’s MRI showed that his tumor had grown three millimeters since chemotherapy ended 15 months before. He was now back to three month scans.  Seth and his parents continue to support the Team Jack Foundation and the cause.

During the opening, Seth, along with his parents, Lonny and Melissa, accepted this $1,000 check on behalf of the Foundation. Our sincerest thanks to Dunkin’ Donuts Hastings for their donation and support of child brain cancer, the leading cancer cause of death in children. Also, a special thank you to Bryce Bares, owner of Dunkin’ Donuts Hastings, for his generosity and support.  Lastly, thank you to the Ostrander Family for continuing to stand by the Foundation and fight this horrific disease.
