Fat Brain Toys Presents the Team Jack Gala; Goes Above and Beyond

Friday, March 20, 2020

"Any disease that compromises a child's ability to grow, learn, and live impacts us deeply. And so, partnering with the Team Jack Foundation to help defeat pediatric brain cancer was a logical choice for us," said Karen Carson, Co-Founder of Fat Brain Toys.

Fat Brain Toys, an Omaha-based business, is passionate about supporting the Team Jack Foundation and their mission to raise much-needed funds for childhood brain cancer research. They first became involved as supporters of the Team Jack Foundation mission in 2016 when they helped sponsor Team Jack's marquee event, the Annual Gala in Lincoln, Nebraska and since have been relentless supporters of the cause.

Recently, Fat Brain Toys presented the 7th Annual Team Jack Gala and with their help, raised over $455,000 for research. That evening, they presented Team Jack with two checks totaling $54,000. Not only is this a significant financial investment for their company, but co-founders Mark & Karen Carson, their family and team involvement goes far beyond a monetary donation. The Fat Brain Toys team along with the Carson Family makes up the bulk of the volunteers, totaling nearly 40 people, that report early on the morning of the gala to unpack and arrange the 140-item silent auction. In addition, they assist in steaming banners, running out for supplies and happily take on any other task that comes up.

When asked about the commitment from the Fat Brain Toys employees, Karen Carson said, "Mark and I are blessed to have such an incredible team. I remember the first time I sent an email to our staff asking for volunteers to help at a Team Jack event, and my inbox filled up instantly. They all share our same passion for the cause and feel a sincere obligation to help families affected by pediatric brain cancer. It’s gratifying that we have colleagues at Fat Brain that feel so passionate and willing to do anything for the foundation. Team Jack is family-based and we truly consider our team family as well."

And it doesn't stop there. Mark & Karen also lean heavily on their family to help with the cause, in which they proudly support. One of Karen's sisters, Deb Kelly from O'Neill, Nebraska, is the chair of the Gala Decor Committee made up of their other three siblings and their family. Not only does Deb develop the decor plan, but she and her crew assemble the ballroom as well as tear down at the completion of the event, a huge undertaking. Deb first became involved with the Foundation in 2013 when Team Jack held their very first fundraiser in their home-base in Atkinson, Nebraska. The result of their efforts is always a beautifully decorated, classy ballroom with an underlying Team Jack Foundation feel.

"Any disease that compromises a child's ability to grow, learn, and live impacts us deeply. And so, partnering with the Team Jack Foundation to help defeat pediatric brain cancer was a logical choice for us." -Karen Carson, Co-Founder of Fat Brain Toys.

The Carsons and the Fat Brain Toys company support doesn't stop just with their monetary and volunteer efforts in their quest to help the Team Jack Foundation fund the cure for childhood brain cancer. They enlist their customer help as well through the development of a give-back program called the Team Jack Round Up. At the conclusion of each transaction completed on their online store as well as in their two retail stores, they ask the customer if they would like to round up $1.00 for the Team Jack Foundation. In just two years, this program has raised over $46,000 for childhood brain cancer research and in their words, "all we had to was ask!" To learn more about their program, click here

In addition to their annual event support, Karen Carson has been a member of the Team Jack Foundation Board of Directors since 2016 where her input is deeply valued.  Karen also serves as on the CHAD State Board on behalf of the Team Jack Foundation.  The Carson Family and Fat Brain Toys continue to support Team Jack, their fundraisers and the families affected in Nebraska by the disease throughout the year.

We are honored to have Fat Brain Toys as part of the Team Jack family, and it is a relationship that we value and hold in high regard. Thank you, Fat Brain Toys, for your continued belief in and dedication to the Team Jack Foundation and to children fighting brain cancer!

Why Is Fat Brain Lending Support to Team Jack (source: FatBrainToys.com)

At one end of the spectrum, pediatric brain cancer can negatively impact or destroy a child's ability to love, speak, see, run, balance, create, and laugh. At the other end of the spectrum, Fat Brain Toys' mission to provide "A Smarter Way to Play" seeks to strengthen a child's abilities in verbal skills, visual acuity, balance, sensory discernment, nurturing, creating, building, and problem-solving.

Building these skills and the foundations of your personality are essential for human growth, and tumors that strike this still-maturing organ can be devastating. Any disease that compromises a child's ability to grow, learn, and live impacts us deeply. And so, partnering with the Team Jack Foundation to help defeat pediatric brain cancer was a logical choice for us.

Our company and our employees have taken this important cause to heart, and we hope you decide to join Team Jack.
