This Sunday, November 19, Martin Truex, Jr., heads to Miami to vye for NASCAR's Cup Series Championship. Truex has had a dominating year, racking up a series-high of seven wins.  But away from racing, his longtime girlfriend, Sherry Pollex, is battling stage III ovarian cancer.  Part of Martin Truex, Jr. absolutely wants to win the NASCAR Cup title for his longtime girlfriend, Sherry Pollex.

In addition to his outstanding NASCAR career, Truex is a childhood cancer and ovarian cancer advocate, and supporter of Team Jack.  Truex was first introduced to the Foundation in September 2016 when Andy Hoffman, Board Chair and Co-Founder of Team Jack, was recognized at The NASCAR Foundation's Gala Awards in New York City.  Introducing Hoffman at the NASCAR Foundation Honors Gala was Truex, whose own foundation was created with similar goals as far as developing new, pediatric-centric cancer treatments.

"You want to help, you want to be part of what they are doing."   -Martin Truex, Jr. on the Team Jack Foundation

Truex also participated in the 5th Annual Team Jack State-wide Radiothon in Lincoln in September explaining why he chose to support pediatric cancer and ovarian cancer.

"We started our Foundation about 10 years ago and my girlfriend Sherry and I, we have a lot of different causes we are interested in most of them focused around children, but we were working in a lot of different areas and as we worked down this road of trying to make the biggest impact we possibly could, we just kept, for some reason, gravitating toward the pediatric cancer side. I don't know if it was because we were touched by the families dealing with it or the children or what it was, we just kept continually wanting to go back and do more in that area and then low and behold three years ago, Sherry gets diagnosed with ovarian cancer and now we do a lot with that as well," Truex said.

The Martin Truex Jr. Foundation (MTJF) was started in 2007 by Truex and long-time partner, Sherry Pollex. The foundation's mission is to help support underfunded cancer initiatives specific to ovarian and childhood cancers, and assist the individuals and families affected by them.

Martin Truex Jr. competes full-time in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series for Furniture Row Motorsports. Truex has 14 career Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series wins and finished a career-best fourth in points in 2015. Truex is also a two-time XFINITY Series champion, 2004 and 2005, with 13 career wins.

"At NASCAR we are fierce competitors on the track but help each other off the track, that's really the story of the family of NASCAR and I think it goes the same for Team Jack, what you guys are doing in Nebraska and the stories I have seen at the football games and all those things.  It's just great to see people helping each other out in tough times. We're definitely honored to be a part of Team Jack."
